Briefly describe your creative business - or your interest in creative businesses
I design and make contemporary jewellery and sculptural objects and coach creative people in the 'business' of their creative practices.
Tell us more about your creative business...
In my work I give a voice to the emotions we all experience, but don’t feel comfortable to show; the breathlessness of fear, the raw, sheer joy of a perfect moment, the taut expectation of passion, the fullness and satisfaction of knowing. My tools enable me simply to show life from my perspective, describing my world, this thing between reality and fantasy.
My work takes time – time to look, experience, question, discover and communicate. Shapes, colours, textures evoke memories of something you once felt. My work asks you to slow down, see more, feel, react. It gives you a chance to think…
Then there's the other side...
While studying Jewellery and Object Design, I grew increasingly aware of the gulf that exists between the success artists, designers and other creative practitioners dream of and the results many of us achieve.
I chose very early on not to subscribe to the 'struggling artist' stereotype, and trained in Business Management and Success Coaching, in order to bridge the gap between my own creative practice and the flourishing creative business I aspired to.
It has become my passion to achieve success in my practice and assist other creative practitioners to break away from the 'struggle' and achieve success in theirs.
Information, ideas and contacts you'd like, to help you become even more successful in your creative business
If you're a Jewellery and Object designer/maker who is interested in collaborations - let's talk!.
If you're from a Jewellery and Object gallery or outlet anywhere in the world, I'd love to talk with you about exhibiting and stocking production work to build an international portfolio.
If you want a unique piece of jewellery for yourself or as a gift for someone precious, ask me about making a special one-off commission.
If you're an artist, designer or creative professional, let's talk about ideas, discuss what's going right or wrong in your practice and get motivated towards a successful creative career.
Danielle, I'm such a virgin when it comes to the online networks but eventually find my way-well that is, since the last time I logged on to this site.
Your pieces are really stunning and I would love to own one of your pieces one day. I'm slowly but surely finding my hedgehog as it is has been my biggest challenge sticking to one idea and following it through. With David and Nick William's guidance, I am better focused and inspired.
DO you have a catelogue with your artwork pieces and prices? Yes, maybe on your website...
Hi Danielle
In his book, A guide to the business of creativity, David raised the "to sell out or not sell out" question and this reminded me about the dilemma faced by members of the SA Communist Party and union organisations in our country when their leadership/members have to make decisions about taking up jobs in other workplaces other than their organisations. The dilemma is that of selling out or not selling out to persue your personal goals and ambitions.
As a Social Worker and an HR practitioner, I believe in helping people make the best of what they have and who they are and not lament their situation and ask for handouts even when not necessary. One finds this a lot in our arts community and I am kind of suprised that struggling artist is not only a South African phenomemon. I am a humanitarian but don't want to operate a humanitarian business and I think that is why I never really practiced as a Social Worker but an HR practitioner.
I also want to be successful business women, with "a desired financial result", live a comfortable and good life(I'm a Libran and rarely compromise on this), and contribute to the development of others without losing focus of my business goals, triple bottom line impact.
I'm contemplating taking up business management studies as well in the near future so that I harness my business skills, so to you I say, You Go Girl and More Power To You! Amandla!
With my Creative Business Support Services enterprise, one of the interventions I believe is imperative to facilitate in this sector is Change Management. I might be naive about it but I believe the little impact that one can make to change the mind set of artists is more significant than not doing anything about it at all.
